A depiction
of Leonardo DaVinci’s “Vitruvian
Man” executed in micro mosaic.
Leonardo based his drawing on the ideal proportions
of man and the correlation of geometry and
ideal proportions as found in nature. The
inspiration for the drawing was the writings
of Vitruvius. |

Vitruvian takes
its name from Marcus
Vitruvius Pollio, the Roman Writer, Architect
and Engineer of the first century BC. Vitruvius
is famous as the author of De Architectura known
today as The Ten Books on Architecture, the only
surviving book on architecture from classical antiquity.
One of Vitruvius' better known theories from his
book is that a structure must exhibit the three
qualities of firmitas, utilitas, and venustas? that
is, it must be strong or durable, useful, and beautiful..
If a building is to create a sense of eurythmia
- a graceful and agreeable atmosphere - it is essential
that it mirrors these natural laws of harmony and
beauty.
It is these timeless values that inform the work
of Vitruvian Design Inc. and are the fundamentals
upon which we base our business. Vitruvian Design,
the wholesale arm of the Company, has for many years
specialized in bringing the latest products in stone,
ceramic, metal and glass tile to tile showrooms
and large commercial projects nation wide. Now with
the opening of its “Studio” homeowners,
designers and architects can obtain access to these
same products.
